Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority hopes to ban the use of incandescent bulbs to promote energy-saving lamps

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority said it is lobbying the Ministry of Energy and Power Development to introduce a policy banning the use of incandescent bulbs to promote the use of more energy-efficient energy-saving lamps. The Authority said this is part of measures to alleviate the current electricity shortage crisis facing Zimbabwe, and it will invest funds to promote energy-saving lamps as soon as possible. According to the Authority's calculations, investing $7 million to promote the use of energy-saving lamps can save 150,000 kilowatts of electricity, equivalent to approximately $500,000 per 10,000 kilowatts, while the actual cost of investing in a power station is approximately $30 million per 10,000 kilowatts. The Authority also stated that regional cooperation needs to be strengthened on this issue, and SADC member states have already reached a consensus, and all countries in the region will soon introduce related policies.

　　Zimbabwe's Minister of Energy and Power Development, Mangma, agreed to introduce a policy to ban the use of incandescent bulbs, stating that this would save Zimbabwe between 200,000 and 300,000 kilowatts of electricity, equivalent to building a power station. Mang also said that the tender for 5 million energy-saving lamps will be conducted in two weeks, while criticizing the shocking fraudulent behavior of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority in the previous two tenders that were cancelled due to corruption and unfair competition, in which some employees of the Authority discarded the documents of certain bidders, causing these bidders to lose their bidding qualifications.
