The new Cree XLamp XP-G2 LED achieves 20% higher luminous efficacy in the same XP package size
Cree (Nasdaq: CREE), the market leader in LED lighting, has announced the launch of the XLamp XP-G2 LED. Compared to the previous-generation XP-G LED, it provides lighting fixture manufacturers with 20% higher luminous efficacy and 2.5 times better value (lm/$). The higher brightness and higher efficiency XP-G2 LED delivers immediate performance improvements to customers. At the same time, the XP-G2 LED enables lighting fixture manufacturers to achieve the same brightness at a lower cost with fewer LED devices, and can also help increase brightness levels when using the same number of LED devices and the same power.
The new XP-G2 LED is tested and binned at 85°C with the relevant characteristic parameters provided. At the same time, the XP-G2 LED adopts the same package size (3.45mm x 3.45mm) as the previous-generation XP-G LED and achieves optical design compatibility, thereby providing fast and effective performance improvements to shorten the LED luminaire design cycle and accelerate customers' time-to-market. The XP-G2 LED is widely applicable to high-lumen applications ranging from indoor and outdoor lighting to portable lighting and replacement lamps.

The XP-G2 LED is built on the revolutionary SC? technology platform, combining high light output, high reliability, and high luminous efficacy. At cool white (6000K), 350 mA and 85°C, efficacy is up to 151 lm/W. At cool white (6000K), 350 mA and 25°C, efficacy is up to 165 lm/W. At warm white (3000K), 350 mA and 85°C, efficacy is up to 133 lm/W. At warm white (3000K), 350 mA and 25°C, efficacy is up to 145 lm/W. The SC technology platform leverages Cree's industry-leading silicon carbide (SiC) technology, delivering outstanding performance in LED chip architecture and phosphor conversion, and incorporates the latest matching packaging technology to provide the industry's most advanced LED devices.
Luminaire manufacturers seeking ENERGY STAR certification require parameter and performance data, including LM-80 reports, to accelerate time to market. The XP-G2 LED is the follow-up upgrade to the XP-G LED and is available with LM-80 data. Based on LM-80 data, only 3000 hours of testing is required instead of the typical 6000 hours, helping to speed up the luminaire certification process. The XP-G2 LED has also been UL-certified and is classified as Class 4.
