The year 2012 is the most crucial year for LED companies. This year, the incandescent lamp ban was officially implemented, and the "12th Five-Year Special Plan for Semiconductor Lighting Technology Development" was opened for public consultation, bringing favorable development opportunities for LED lighting; this year, competition in the LED industry intensified, price wars became fierce, patent wars came wave after wave, and the trends of elimination, mergers and acquisitions, and integration became increasingly evident.

To attack or to defend, to transform or to adjust and upgrade?... Plan first then act; it is time for deep thought and choosing a way out, time to set the LED market battle plan, time to formulate the LED technology R&D roadmap, time to coordinate industry development. To this end, Guangzhou Guangya Frankfurt Exhibition Co., Ltd., together with New Century LED Net and China LED Online, will host the "2012 Asia LED Summit Forum" during the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition and Asia LED Exhibition (June 9-11), to jointly discuss the major plans for LED enterprises and industry development.

  Nakamura Shuji, George Crawford "Preside"

Nakamura Shuji and George Craford are household names in the industry. Nakamura is the father of blue LEDs; he developed the blue LED, which enabled LED manufacturers to produce three-primary-color (red, green, and blue) LEDs, making it possible to achieve 16 million colors. More importantly, the LED industry has used this new technology to begin the commercial production of white LEDs. The other is the father of yellow LEDs. Craford's research mainly focuses on visible-light LEDs that use compound semiconductor materials; he is committed to developing high-brightness, high-energy-efficiency LED chips and promoting the commercialization of LEDs, thereby making tremendous contributions to reducing the high energy consumption and environmental pollution of traditional lighting sources.

At this "2012 Asian LED Summit Forum", Dr. Nakamura Shuji focused on elaborating "The Current Status and Prospects of Nitride-Substrate LED Development", while Mr. George Craford presented his forecast on "LED Technology Trends: Enabling Continuous Improvement of Lighting Systems".

Four Industry Leaders Discuss the Landscape of Asia's LED Industry

Looking at the global landscape of LED industry development, European and American countries occupy the high-end market, with a market share of around 20%. In 2010, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Mainland China collectively held a market share of 81.3%, making Asia the major production base for LEDs. Clearly, in the future competition for global LED status and market share, Asia will be the main battlefield, in which the development of the four key players—Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Mainland China—is of vital importance and will play a decisive role in the global LED chessboard. So, what is the current state of LED industry development in these four Asian powerhouses? What will the future landscape look like? And how should LED companies grasp the overall development of the LED industry?

At this forum, Mr. Wan Xihong, Director of the Guangdong Guangya Lighting Research Institute, focused on discussing strategies for Chinese LED enterprises to address opportunities and challenges; Dr. Fang Bingguo, Chief Director of the Korea LED Supply Association, elaborated on "How to Provide LED Lighting for Underground Garages"; the Leader of the Energy Research Group at the Industrial Economics and Trend Research Center of Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute will provide an outlook on the development of Taiwan's LED industry; and Mr. Hori Masanori, Executive Director of the Japan Lighting Equipment Manufacturers Association, focused on elaborating "Japan's Post-Earthquake Energy-Saving Policies and the Popularization of LED Lighting".

LED Industry CEOs, CTOs, and CMOs, Creating Cutting-Edge Dialogue

Close to Industry Hotspots, Hot Discussion on Zhaga Standards

Currently, the hottest topic in the LED industry is undoubtedly LED standards. In the first half of the year, Zhaga, which promotes the standardization of LED lighting product interfaces, has been very active. In addition to holding meetings on the development of LED light engine interface standards, Zhaga also showcased modular LED products at the Frankfurt International Exhibition of Architecture and Lighting in Germany, demonstrating its ambition and strength in promoting the global standardization of LED lighting product interfaces. But what does this mean for Chinese LED companies? Is the arrival of Zhaga a blessing or a curse? What is the current progress of Zhaga standards? What are the technical requirements of Zhaga for member products?...

On the morning of June 10, the "LED Standard Exchange Seminar and Zhaga Special Presentation" will be held at Hall 8 South Hall. At this breakout session, Ms. Qin Bifang of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Lighting Electric Appliances, Ms. Zhao Ying, Secretary-General of the Semiconductor Lighting Technology Standards Working Group of the China Electronics Standardization Institute, and Mr. Luo Tao of the Guangdong Semiconductor Lighting Benchmark System Research Center will each elaborate on the current status and plans for semiconductor lighting standards. Zhaga executive member representatives: Mr. Zeng Mu, General Manager of the Guangzhou Branch of DEKRA Quality Certification (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Prof. Yan Xiaoling, APAC Lighting Standardization Director of Philips (China) Investment Co., Ltd., and Mr. Wu Shimin, General Manager of Chi Han Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., will jointly share insights on Zhaga light engine interface standardization.
