Shenzhen LED Industry Accounts for 1/3 of the Country; Set to Exceed 40 Billion in 2011

It was learned from the press conference of the 2011 China LED Exhibition (Shenzhen) that this year (2011), Shenzhen's LED industry sales output is expected to reach over 40 billion yuan, with a growth rate approaching 60%. Among them, display screens, backlight sources, and various scenic and specialty lighting are growing the fastest.

　　At the press conference that day, Wang Dianfu, President of the Shenzhen LED Industry Federation, stated that 2010 can be called the first year of LED. According to estimates, the global LED industry grew at an average rate of approximately 50% last year, with China performing particularly impressively. The LED industry reached a scale of 125.6 billion yuan, of which Shenzhen's local LED enterprises achieved sales revenue exceeding 40 billion yuan, accounting for one-third of the national total and over 60% of Guangdong Province. Among them, display screens, backlight sources, and various scenic and specialty lighting grew the fastest, followed by indoor lighting and street lamps, which also grew rapidly.

　　According to Wang Dianfu's introduction, over the next 5 years, with the strong support of the "12th Five-Year Plan," China's LED industry will achieve an annual compound growth rate of 42%, and is expected to reach an output value of 500 billion yuan by 2015, quadrupling from 2010. At the technological R&D level, in order to address the shortcomings of Chinese LED enterprises in research and development, China will introduce 1,446 MOCVD equipment over the next five years, which will require at least 100 leading talents. However, China's current talent reserves in the LED field remain a cause for concern.
