Yesterday, Philips announced that its lighting application center, the largest in Asia and the most advanced in the world, officially settled in the Chengdu High-tech Zone, covering an area of 10,000 square meters. The center will showcase Philips' most advanced LED lighting products, technologies and solutions in themed real-life settings according to different lighting application areas, such as hotels, shopping malls, offices, roads, urban landscapes, etc., allowing people to intuitively understand and experience Philips' most advanced lighting technology. Once completed, the center will become Philips' largest lighting application center in Asia and the most advanced in the world.

It is understood that this lighting application center will integrate the display projects of Philips' two well-known lighting application centers in the Netherlands and France.

On the same day, Philips (China) Investment Co., Ltd. held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Philips Professional Lighting (Chengdu) Demonstration Park in the Chengdu High-tech Zone (West Area). The park has a total investment of approximately 25 million euros, an area of 33,000 square meters, and is expected to be operational in 2013. This is the second regional headquarters established by Philips in China. As early as the beginning of 2011, Philips had announced a strategic plan to create another "home market" in China besides the Netherlands and the United States. As one of the important implementation measures of this strategy, Philips also announced in June 2011 that it would establish its second regional headquarters in China in the Chengdu High-tech Development Zone.

Liang Hanfeng, President of Philips Lighting Greater China, said that this was an inevitable choice after weighing multiple factors, including Chengdu's high-tech and advanced manufacturing industries, as well as the industrial foundation, talent pool, and market support they have attracted. Not only has the forecast that LED business will account for 50% of overall business volume by 2015 remained unchanged, he further indicated that the development speed of LED business in China will be even faster. "Currently, when many people mention LED, they think LED is the product. But in fact, the core of LED development should lie in overall cost and solutions. Therefore, out of confidence in the high-end product value of the LED industry, we remain optimistic about the LED industry."
