Samsung Electronics considers bringing Samsung LED under its wing

According to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics stated that it is considering bringing its joint venture with Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung LED Co., under its wing, but has not yet made a final decision.

Samsung Electronics announced on October 28 that the proportion of LED backlight models in the company's overall TV sales rose from 50% in Q2 to 55%. Samsung estimated earlier this year that LED-backlit TV shipment share in 2011 would increase significantly from 20% in 2010 to 51%.

Samsung LED announced on July 19 that its joint venture with Japan's Sumitomo Chemical (Samsung Sumitomo LED Materials) will invest 500 billion won (US$471 million) by 2015 to produce key LED components.

　　Tang Naibin, Director of LED Lighting at Samsung LED's China Business Department, once stated that Samsung LED Lighting officially entered the mainland China market in early 2011, hoping to become a leading manufacturer in the mainland LED lighting market by 2013.
