Source: 中国之光网 Views: 5764

On April 1, 2026, the Panasonic Group of Japan (i.e., Panasonic Holdings Corporation) officially completed its strategic split and restructuring. Panasonic simultaneously released three core announcements declaring the implementation of a new round of group-level organizational transformation, completing business segmentation, establishment of new entities, and personnel adjustments through absorption division. In this transformation, the strategic realignment of the lighting business has also attracted attention from industry professionals.

This transformation centers on the absorption-type corporate spin-off, splitting the core business of Panasonic Corporation into three wholly-owned subsidiaries:

  • Panasonic Corporation / New Panasonic Corporation

  • Panasonic HVAC&CC Corporation / Panasonic HVAC and Cold Chain Company

  • Panasonic Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd. (not specifically disclosed in this announcement)

Specifically, Panasonic Corporation has adopted a new operational system. It is reported that through business integration, the main businesses of the former Panasonic Home Appliances Company and the China Northeast Asia Company have been taken over by Panasonic Entertainment & Interactive Co., Ltd., which has been renamed Panasonic Corporation. The company will focus on developing the lifestyle business segment centered on home appliances, serving as the core vehicle for the Panasonic Group targeting the C-end and Chinese market.

Main businesses include: large home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines; small home appliances such as beauty and health devices and kitchen small appliances; AVC products such as digital cameras, televisions, headphones, video intercom doorbells, and professional audio-video systems; at the same time covering R&D, manufacturing, and sales of related equipment, enterprise solutions, and bicycles.

Panasonic HVAC & CC Co., Ltd. , integrating the HVAC company and cold chain solution company from the former Panasonic Sustainable Climate Technologies Group, has become a vertical technology company focused on air, water, and food. The independent operation of air conditioning and cold chain marks that Panasonic has elevated low-carbon climate technology to a strategic track at the group level , forming a dual-wheel drive with lifestyle businesses.

Business scope includes residential/commercial air conditioners, ventilation equipment, air purifiers, CO₂ heat pump water heaters, air source heat pumps , commercial cold chain display cabinets, and kitchen equipment.

It is worth noting that Panasonic's lighting business has been clearly assigned to "Panasonic Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd." . It is reported that the business scope of the newly reorganized "Panasonic Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd." includes: Luminaire products, high and low voltage distribution equipment, switch panels, sockets, smart door locks, and access security control devices, etc.

Panasonic's lighting business covers both residential and commercial sectors. However, following this restructuring, lighting has been clearly integrated into the segment centered on B-end engineering projects , and no longer belongs to the "Smart Living" segment. This indicates that in Panasonic's strategic positioning, lighting is more defined as "electrical engineering products".

At the same time, the former head of Panasonic Lighting China now holds the position of "Head of the WS Business Promotion Headquarters for Northeast Asia, Panasonic Electric Works China." WS stands for Wellness Smart, representing the Health & Wellness Business focused on comprehensive solutions for living spaces, rather than single lighting products. This also confirms Panasonic's strategic shift: from selling a single lamp to selling a "healthy home".

From Panasonic's organizational restructuring, we can observe:

First, Panasonic's global lighting team and resources are shifting towards the B-end. In the future, will Panasonic's lighting products lean more towards engineering projects, building integration, and professional [[Sales] channel]?

Secondly, for C-end business in China, single lighting items will mainly rely on the e-commerce [[Sales] channel].

Third, offline stores may shift from selling lamps to showcasing and experiencing comprehensive health home

This transformation is a landmark move by this century-old manufacturing giant from a 'comprehensive diversified group' to a 'specialized vertical operating platform', with all adjustments centered on business core focus, decision efficiency improvement, and regional decentralization.

How will the changes in Panasonic's global organizational structure affect its business in China, especially its lighting business? If you know any other latest news about Panasonic's lighting business, please share them in the comments section.
