Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is the only modern international airport in China integrating sea, land, and air intermodal transport, and the first international airport in China to adopt transit transportation methods. Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport officially commenced operations in October 1991. It is the first airport in China built with locally raised funds. As of February 2011, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport has connected to more than 100 cities domestically and internationally, with 141 routes opened. Among them, there are 109 domestic routes, 3 routes to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and 32 international routes.

The exteriors of Terminal AB at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport are consistent, derived from the symbolism of the Kunpeng spreading its wings. From the front, a modern building with simple lines, orderly arrangement, contrasting light and dark, and elegant colors comes into view, sweeping overhead like the wings of an airplane, majestic and full of tension, exceptionally eye-catching. The two buildings blend into one, presenting a modern architectural effect, leaving a beautiful visual impression on passing travelers. Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is an important communication window during the Shenzhen Universiade. The nightscape effect will create a first impression of beautiful Shenzhen for tourists from afar.

Design concept: Simple and elegant, energy-saving and environmentally friendly, anti-interference, no glare, controllable effect programs, does not affect the building's original appearance, and fully considers natural daylighting during the day.

Luminaire features: The main body of the luminaire uses light guide plate material with high-transparency silk-screen dots. The central installation and structural components for the light source fully consider the existing framework of the building on site, facilitating installation while ensuring concealment, and also avoiding light pollution caused by glare. This overall design ensures that the luminaires installed on the front curtain wall of Terminal AB are not noticeable during the day unless closely observed, thus guaranteeing the original natural daylighting inside the building. Combined with high-brightness, low-power, controllable LED light sources, the project fully achieves energy saving effects in terms of both natural daylighting and artificial lighting.

Lighting effects: After nightfall, six colorful light bands on the front curtain wall of Terminal AB change slowly, combined with the static internal glow of the building's original color, further highlighting the beauty of the three-dimensional structure of this giant steel building. Under different colors, the building reveals different moods, and the ever-changing light color adds a touch of softness to this steel structure, creating a sense of intimacy for visitors.

During production and construction, it was found that signal interference at the airport seriously affected the stability of the luminaire effects. Shenzhen Airport has various radio signal sources. To avoid the impact of these interference sources on the luminaires, engineers from Visse Lighting conducted extensive experiments and gave full consideration to circuit layout and controller selection, ultimately solving the problem successfully. This allowed the entire project to be completed smoothly before the opening of the Universiade, welcoming domestic and international tourists with colorful landscape effects.
